Knock on wood, thus far the action on track has been very clean. We made it through night practice without a caution or red.
For most of the session, it was any number of Corvettes heading the time sheet, but with about 20 minutes to go, it became the magic time. After lingering down the time sheet, Gustavo Yacaman vaulted the OAK Ligier HPD to the top and become the only car to break into the 1:14s in the session thus far. It wasn’t just OAK making a move, Ganassi too moved up, up to 3rd overall. Then Richard Westbrook laid down a fast one in the Spirit of Daytona Corvette, also breaking into the 1:14s at 1:14.991.
GTLM also had some late changes. Bryan Sellers moved the Falken Porsche to the top, recording a 1:19.060 with about 5 minutes left in the session. This moved the No. 3 Corvette, which was at or near the top most of the session back to second fastest.
It appeared to be a troubled session for the Mazda effort, as neither car ran for over a dozen laps and both were way off the pace.
GTD was an AJR 1-2, 23 (Farnbacher) over 22 (Keen), continuing the strong showing by Porsches in the class. In fact it was Porsche 1st through 5th in this session.
In PC, Jack Hawksworth was fastest for RSR, followed by 8Star (Kimber-Smith) and PR1-Mathiasen (Jeannette).
As expected, neither the 18 or 71 made it out on track.
The 90-minute session ended under clear skies. We’ll see what happens tomorrow…
