Estre’s Entirely Fair Advantage
Kevin Estre is a world class GT driver and his performance in the wet on Sunday further underlines that, BUT was there another factor at play?
Hans Reiter certainly thought so when the DSC Ed bumped into him at Austin Airport on Sunday evening.
“I think he drove brilliantly, but I think the KPAX team can read a little better than the rest of us too: The regulations say that rain tyres are free. That means you can use any Pirelli wets you like the rest of us bought the Pirellis on offer at the circuit. I am guessing the McLaren team didn’t!”
Happily the moment arose to press the point as the next man along to the gate was Kevin Estre!
“All I can tell you is that they had Pirelli written on the sidewall” said a happy Sunday race winner, but a twinkle in the eye seemed to indicate that Herr Reiter wasn’t a million kilometres from the truth!”
Hold it! Apparently not! Flying Lizards’ Darren Law says the am parents used the same tyres as everyone else!
COTA Fumble Post race PR
The post race press release from the Circuit of the Americas was somewhat flawed!
Under a headline: From Ferraris, Lamborghinis to Chevrolet Corvettes, the Pirelli World Challenge takes over Circuit of The Americas the release listed Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Chevrolet, Audi, BMW, Bentley, Nissan, Ford, Aston Martin, Acura and Mazda as amongst the marques involved (including the TC classes) but missed the race winning McLaren, and GM’s headlining marque Cadillac. There was, of course, not a single Corvette in competition over the COTA weekend.
