Nico Hulkenberg makes his competitive sportscar racing debut this weekend in the #19 Porsche 919 Hybrid – it’s a time for a variety of ‘firsts’ for the highly rated German F1 driver but there are som obvious questions of comparisons between his two 2015 ‘offices’:
“It’s too early to draw any meaningful comparisons between an F1 car and the LMP1 Porsche. This is my first time in the Porsche in the wet, and the first time driving it with traffic.
“What I can say is that the four wheel drive system is rally quite impressive. It gives great traction out of the low speed corners, particularly a help in the conditions we had this morning as opposed to the one massively overpowered axle we have in F1.
“I’ve been impressed too that you can really push for a full 2 hour stint with great performance throughout, not at all as much of a compromise as perhaps I thought.
“Le Mans is, of course our full focus in the #19 car, it is a big attraction for me. My interest level has been high right from the very start of the conversations about the programme and it is getting higher the more time I have in the car and with the team.
