A couple of very interesting snippets from the French media last week in the DSC Ed’s absence.
Auto-Hebdo reported that Toyota’s LMP1 programme could take quite a leap forward next season after being somewhat off the leading pace this far in 2015.
Some upgrades initially planned for 2017 have reportedly been brought forward to 2016 thanks to an increase in budget.
The aurally much loved V8 will be replaced by a new engine, thought to be a twin turbo V6 of just over 3 litres in capacity.
As expected the super capacitor storage medium will be replaced by batteries and Toyota are expected to move to the 8 MJ energy class, thanks to the lighter and more compact engine.
Auto-Hebdo also reports that Audi too will change to batteries to store the electrical energy and will move to the 6 MJ class, the French weekly thinks it would be too “presumptuous” to move to 8 MJ because of the weight of a diesel engine.
