The ACO has announced that Dome is to be the fifth (and currently final) approved LMP3 chassis constructor joining Ginetta. Onroak (Ligier), Adess and Riley/ Ave as approved suppliers of chassis for the spec Nissan/ XTrac drivetrain in the ACO’s new for 2015 junior prototype formula.
Only the Ginetta has thus far raced with the debuts of the Adess and Ligier products due later this month in Fuji and Estoril in the Asian and European Le Mans Series.
Dome was perhaps a surprise announcement after recent major changes at the company saw many of it’s engineering assets purchased by other companies including Toyota Racing Developments.
There are no further details of a timeline for the first car but an Asian chassis supplier was known to be one of the favoured options for the ACO, eager as they are to give the relaunched Asian Le Mans Series the best possible chance of success.
The LMP3 car will become the latest Dome design to see the light of day after the ill-starred genesis of the S103 LMP2 coupe. The company has also long been looking at finding an avenue back into LMP1 with at least one industry source telling DSC that there was a live LMP1 L coupe study underway earlier this year.
