Strakka Racing’s run was truncated early in the afternoon session with a very unusual failure for the Nissan V8 engine. The team have a spare but with several days of Dunlop testing here to follow they will take their time with the engine change.
Both Lewis Williamson and Tio Elinas got a run apiece this morning, the Cypriot driver in the car for his second run when the engine cried enough.
There was trouble too mid session for the #2 Toyota, out tyre testing in the hands of Anthony Davidson, the team having seen an alarm on hybrid system data. A Red flag for the car to be recovered was soon withdrawn.
One additional driver to report is Bahraini ex British F3 driver and 2005 Formula BMW Asia Champion Salman Al-Khalifa who has turned laps this afternoon in the #95 Aston Martin.
One note of caution about the timing sheets we’ve added to these reports, we believe that at least some of the driver id is faulty having observed times on screen being ascribed to an Aston Martin Evolution Academy driver that was in the garage at the time.
All three of the FIA WEC nominated testers in the LMP1 H cars, plus Juan Pablo Montoya, have lapped in highly respectable times. Montoya posting the fastest time of the day late in the afternoon session with a 1:40.861
