CJ Wilson Racing have added a second Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport to its Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge program for 2016.
The Sebring 150 on Friday, March 18th will see the debut of the #35 Porsche driven by CJ Wilson Racing regular Tyler McQuarrie and series debutant, Till Bechtolsheimer. The pairing is scheduled to contest six of the remaining nine rounds of the series.
For McQuarrie, the program of Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge races completes an arduous schedule which will see him compete full time in Formula Drift, while also tackling all of the US rounds of the spectacular Stadium Super Truck series and a number of off-road events. For the British-raised Bechtolscheimer, this will be his first foray into racing in North America after spending a number of years competing in a wide variety of high profile historic events throughout Europe.
“I’m so excited to be back with CJ Wilson Racing and proud to be part of this new era and direction the team has taken running the new Porsche Cayman GT4,” explained McQuarrie. He went on to underline his enthusiasm for his move to the GS class. “CJWR has been the class of the field over the years and for that I have very high expectations for myself and my new co driver.”
For New York based Bechtolscheimer the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge is a significant career move. “I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with and learn from a team like CJ Wilson Racing. For me, the 2016 season will be all about making the transition from historic to modern racing and finding my footing in a professional series.”
Bechtolscheimer is the brother of Team GB Olympic Dressage Champion Laura Tomlinson.
“The team feels like it’s at full strength now with two cars under the CJWR tent at Sebring,” declared Team Manager, Andris Laivins. He went on to explain how “having Till and Tyler on board for the majority of the season means we are going to accelerate our learning with the Caymans and having a strong lineup alongside Danny and Marc in the 33 gives us a little more muscle on race day.”
The latest team partner is a familiar one to Laivins. “We are very happy to welcome Safecraft Safety Equipment to the #35 car; their fire suppression systems are literally the only ones I’ve used in over a decade building race cars. It’s a critical part of keeping the driver safe, so dealing with a responsive US-based company definitely adds a layer of comfort when you’re making those choices.”
