Callaway GT3 Corvette Liveries Revealed
The first pictures of the new 2016 Callaway Corvette C7 GT3 with racing colours have surfaced today. Calloway Competition is set to run two of its C7s in two different liveries.
The first, shared by the GT Masters twitter account, shows off the familiar Whelen Engineering livery.
And the second, found on driver Patrick Assenheimer’s Facebook page is AutoArenA.de branded.
JMW’s ELMS Lineup Confirmed
As reported during the ELMS Prologue last month by DSC JMW has confirmed that Rory Butcher, Andrea Bertolini and Rob Smith will run together for the British team for the full ELMS season.
“My experiences last year in ELMS were fantastic, so I’m very excited to be back,” Butcher said. “We had a really strong result at Paul Ricard, where we came through to get a podium, then in Estoril we led from Lap One and were on our way for at least a podium and potentially a victory.
“Last year was a big year for me to gain experience racing in Europe, it’s just a case now of going out there and doing a full campaign. There’s a couple of tracks on the calendar that I’ve never been to before, but I feel so comfortable in the Ferrari that I’m sure I can be on the pace relatively quickly.”
BMW Juniors To Test At Ocherslaben
Ahead of the start of the ADAC GT Masters season, official testing will take place next Monday and Tuesday at Oschersleben. The BMW Motorsport junior drivers, Jesse Krohn and Louis Delétraz, will have the opportunity to experience this circuit in the new BMW M6 GT3.
Both youngsters will be in the cockpit of the Junior car on four race weekends and compete with the elite drivers of GT racing. On Monday, Krohn and Delétraz will be available for interviews as part of an ADAC GT Masters media day.
Two New Audi R8 LMS Cars In Japan
Audi is to be represented in the Japanese Super GT Championship with two new R8 LMS cars in the 2016 season.
Audi Team Hitotsuyama relies on continuity with its drivers. The squad is now in its six consecutive year of running with the German automobile manufacturer and entrusts the Briton Richard Lyons and the Japanese Tomonobu Fujii with driving duties of its new race car.
At the same time, in Audi Team Braille, Audi Sport customer racing is welcoming a new customer in the Super GT. One of the two race drivers is the Japanese Masanobu Kato. He is supported by the German Pierre Kaffer, who has been contesting GT3 races in the Audi R8 LMS for several years.
Mills Racing Adds Kuno Wittmer To Sprint X Roster
Mills Racing has announced that Kuno Wittmer will be joining Michael Mills for the Pirelli World Challenge Sprint X Series.
Wittmer – a BMW of North America factory driver – will join Mills in May for the first of three events in the new abbreviated endurance format at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. He will lend his knowledge of the Bowmanville, Ontario track with Michael as they tackle two 60-minute races.
“I believe the BMW Z4 GT3 will be well adapted for this type of circuit, with the high downforce the car naturally produces,” Wittmer said. “Co-driving with Michael will be an honor and pretty good fit in my mind. He has demonstrated great pace, is passionate about the sport and well positioned with the series.”
The support from BMW of North America has led to a shift in the team goals for the year, focusing on winning the Sprint X Championship instead of select sprint races throughout the season.
McLaren 650S Sprint Wins Saudi GT Championship
The McLaren 650S Sprint has secured its first championship silverware taking the 2016 Saudi GT Championship title at the Reem International Circuit in Saudi Arabia. A dominant performance at the final round of the season saw the 650S Sprint claim pole position, fastest lap time and overall race win.
The 650S Sprint contested its first competitive season in Saudi Arabia run by Al Ghassan Dragon Racing Team. The season has seen driver HRH Prince Mohammad Bin Faisal Al Saud claim three victories, one further podium and three fastest laps to earn the team and driver championship trophies.
The track-dedicated 650S Sprint was unveiled at Pebble Beach in 2014 and is based on the road-going 650S Coupé. The aerodynamically enhanced design of the 650S Sprint offers increased levels of downforce, and the revised air intakes offer optimised cooling of the 3.8-litre twin-turbo M838T engine. In the 650S Sprint, the proven powerplant is retained from the 650S road car, with a unique engine and transmission calibration to further enhance on track drivability and driver engagement.
