British GT Fraudster Jailed Again

Notorious ex British GT racer ‘James Munroe’ is in trouble again after being jailed for a third time for fraud

Munroe, aka James Cox was first jailed (for five years) in 2000 after taking £2.8 million from employers McGraw Hill, much of which he used to fund a 1998 British GT Championship race programme in featuring a long tail McLaren F1 GTR, the remainder of the money being used to fund a fantasy lifestyle including a road going McLaren F1 and several other high value road cars and bikes.

In 2007 he was again jailed after defrauding his then employers, the charity Automotive Skills, of around £500,000 after forging references for his accountancy role. Again high value cars were purchased with his ill-gotten gains.

After his release he attempted to sell his story to a prominent publisher as an ‘inspirational’ tale before being outed as a two-time convicted fraudster.

And yesterday he was jailed for a third time, this time for six years, after it was discovered that he had again created a false cv and references to gain employment at Britain’s Energy Coast (BEC) before forging a loan agreement and purchasing a Jaguar road car with company funds.

Cox admitted six offences including committing fraud to get the job, obtaining money through fraud and four counts of transferring criminal property.
