Corvette & Bugatti show cars
The Callaway Corvette C7 GT3 bound for a late season VLN campaign is on display in the Nurburgring paddock. It’s an imposing beast, definitely a worthy addition to the GT3 ‘family’.
Also on display alongside the Bentley Bentayga SUV is Bugatti’s Vision GT Concept car, bound not for the showroom floor but for PlayStations’ forthcoming Gran Turismo Sport game and “inspired by the Le Mans winning Bugatti Type 37” it is a massively imposing thing.
The Vision GT is allegedly capable of over 250 mph from a powerplant rumoured to feature more horsepower than the entire history of the Grand National.
#31 withdrawn
HTP has confirmed that the #31 Mercedes AMG GT3 will be withdrawn from the Nurburgring 24 Hours as soon as the team’s #29 and #30 cars safely complete the Top 30 qualifying shootout.
The car was entered as a spare in case of dramas for either of the other pair.
Classic race, TT Cup & Porsche drivers
Earl Bamber missed the early track action here after testing with Porsche North America at Watkins Glen earlier this week. The 2016 Le Mans-winner arrived ahead of Q2 yesterday.
Richard ‘Dicky’ Meaden from Evo Magazine is not featured in the Aston Martin Test Centre driving squad this year but is here at the Nurburgring as a guest driver in the supporting Audi TT Cup which features a double-header of races today and tomorrow. Meaden came home a fighting 13th in Race One.
Among the huge field for the 24h Classic race, ex-Mercedes DTM driver Daniel Juncadella, ex-BMW factory driver Claudia Hurtgen are racing.
Juncadella is driving an ex-DTM Mercedes 190, while Hurtgen is in a BMW 2002.
