Midecke Stone Motorsport will join GT Asia for the third round next month in Okayama with one of two ex-Craft Bamboo Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT3s, with the second potentially appearing later in the season. Driving the car will be Australian GT regular Nathan Marocom and George Miedecke.
After revealing last month that he’d purchased the two race-winning Craft Bamboo Aston’s, Andrew Miedecke has now released further details about his plan to join the popular GT Asia Series, with every likelihood that the 2015 title-winning Aston may return ‘home’.
Miedecke also revealed details of a new arrangement with Aston Martin Racing in the UK to become a partner in the Asian region for the successful British marque.
“My intention with developing this project is to run it very professionally, so it was important from my perspective to establish solid links with the manufacturer,” Miedecke explained. “I saw them after I’d bought the ex-Tony Quinn Vantage in Australia, to ensure that if I took on the two Craft Bamboo cars, I’d have the support to back that investment up.
“As a result of those discussions, and our relationship with Matt Stone Racing, we’ve established Miedecke Stone Motorsport as an official partner team of Aston Martin Racing in the Asian region. That will see us involved in provision of parts, cars and technology from Aston Martin Racing in the Asian and Australian markets, which ultimately leads into our next announcement.”
Miedecke made his intentions known very early after purchasing the two Craft-Bamboo cars that his focus was a return to Asia, and that has resulted in the signing of the team’s first crew to join the GT Asia Series from the third event in early July in Japan.
The team is in discussions with other drivers about the potential for the second car to run in GT Asia and or Australian GT.
The opening event for the new operation will take place at Japan’s Okayama International Circuit on the first weekend in July, with the iconic Fuji Speedway playing host to the fourth event of the 2016 season just two weeks later.
