Spa 24 Hours: Goetz Puts Mercedes on Pole

Schmid makes it an all-HTP front row; Black Falcon's Juncadella is fastest Pro-Am entry

The #86 Mercedes-AMG GT of HTP Motorsport will start the 2016 Spa 24 Hours from pole position, after a 2:17.561 lap in Friday evening’s Super Pole shootout from Max Goetz, the 2013 race winner making his return to GT3 after graduating to the DTM in 2014.

Second-fastest was another HTP Mercedes, the #85 with Clemens Schmid at the wheel. Felix Rosenqvist meanwhile made it an all-Mercedes top three in the #88 AKKA-ASP car – indeed the entire top six was locked out by AMG machinery.

The provisional pole-sitting #58 McLaren of Shane van Gisbergen came to a halt on track during its first flying lap, denying the Kiwi the chance to set a time.

UPDATE: Goetz’s fastest time was later deleted for a yellow-flag infringement, dropping his car to sixth and promoting the #85 to pole.
