We’ve just received the response from Mercedes-AMG to the penalties imposed on the top six qualifiers in Superpole yesterday, reprinted below in full:
“The stewards of the Spa 24-hour race have imposed a penalty against the six fastest Mercedes-AMG GT3 (#85, #88, #00, #84, #56, #86) from yesterday’s Super Pole session, after which the times were disallowed. The cars were dropped in the starting grid order. Moreover, the cars were given a five minutes’ stop and go penalty during the race. The background of the decision is an interpretation of the FIA homologation of the aforementioned cars that was deemed to be incorrect from the stewards’ perspective.
“Mercedes-AMG thoroughly analysed the complex accusations. There are varying opinions about the interpretation of the homologation. After thorough investigation of the complaints, we decided to submit a protest. Unfortunately, however, this was not accepted anymore as the deadline had passed.”
