Managing director of RACE123 organiser J’s Consulting, Hongsik Jeon, has revealed further details of the event’s regulations ahead of the full formal announcement later this month.
The biggest news is that each driver lineup must abide to a pro-am format.
“Since the prize money is quite attractive, I expected some factory teams will look at this as a good market,” Jeon told DSC. If some big manufacturers show up with multiple factory drivers in each car, the other teams can’t enjoy it. This is why a Bronze is a MUST in a team, with another a bronze or a silver in a three-driver team. Then it will be competitive, you can’t expect to win the US$200,000 easily.”
Balance of Performance has also been a big part of the process of forming the race, which has been difficult because there are plenty of models of GT3 car which haven’t ever run at Korea International Circuit.
“BOP is the most sensitive field we are dealing with at the moment,” he added.
In regards to the race distance being 1,230km, Jeon says that there was a reason behind the decision.
“I want to make this event as the bridge between Korean motorsport (which is still some isolated) and other parts of the world. To make it happen even after the race, we have decided the race distance, 1,230Km which will take between eight and nine hours.
“The biggest difference between 12 hours (not like Bathurst but usual ones, starting around noon) & RACE123 is the ‘Party’ after the race which everyone can enjoy. I trust everybody at the circuit deserves the party after a long race but most 12 hours, you can’t.
“We are trying to make RACE123 as attractive as possible.”
