The #17 TF Sport Aston Martin Vantage of British GT Championship leaders Derek Johnston and Jonny Adam was the fastest car in Saturday morning’s first free-practice session at Snetterton. Adam’s 1:47.909 was just over two tenths clear of his closest challenger, Phil Keen in the #33 Demon Tweeks-backed Lamborghini Huracan.
Rob Bell put the #79 Black Bull/Ecurie Ecosse McLaren 650S third fastest to make it three different marques in the top three, while the fastest GT4 runner was Matthew George (above), who set a 1:58.202 in the #44 Generation AMR Aston he shares with James Holder. Second-fastest in GT4 was the Graham Johnson/Mike Robinson PMW/Optimum Ginetta.
There were a couple of incidents for GT4 runners in the session: Aleskander Schjerpen suffered engine failure in the #40 Century Motorsport Ginetta early in the session, bringing out a brief red flag around five minutes into running to recover the car back to the pits, where it’s currently undergoing an engine change (above).
Towards the end of the hour, Anna Walewska had an off-track moment in the other Century G55, causing some front-right damage. Also engaged in repairs were the mechanics on the #56 Tolman Ginetta of David Pattison and Luke Davenport, which had an off early in the hour and picked up both front and rear damage.
