Mark Farmer, who looks to be on a roll after his and Jon Barnes’ win last time out at Spa (above), has taken pole position in the #11 TF Sport Aston Martin for the first of Sunday’s two British GT Snetterton races. For the second one-hour contest, Phil Keen will lead the field away in the #33 Barwell Lamborghini.
Am Qualifying (for Race 1)
Jon Minshaw in the #33 Barwell Lamborghini was the early pace-setter in this session, topping the timing screens with his first flyer and then improving on his second, with Farmer initially lying third behind Alisdair McCaig’s McLaren.
Farmer improved next time around to go second with a 1:50.040 and McCaig was then demoted by Derek Johnston’s 1:50.285, which put the #17 TF Aston into its final qualifying position of third.
Farmer had more left in the tank for his third flying lap, which was a 1:49.422, seven hundredths quicker than Minshaw’s effort. That Spa win does though mean that the Farmer/Barnes car will have to spend 10 additional seconds in the pits during the hour-long race.
A late lap from Lee Mowle hauled the AmD Tuning BMW (above) into fourth on the grid for Race 1, ahead of McCaig’s McLaren, Rick Parfitt Jr in the Team Parker Bentley, Liam Griffin in the other Barwell Lamborghini and Ian Stinton in the #32 Tolman Ginetta.
Ninth was Phil Dryburgh in the Motorbase Aston, while the Race 1 grid was completed by Richard Neary in the ABBA/Rollcentre BMW, David Pattison in the #33 Tolman Ginetta, Mike Brown in the Ultimate Speed Aston and Pete Littler in the PFL Aston.
Pro Qualifying (for Race 2)
Phil Keen’s first flying lap of 1:47.167 in the #33 Demon Tweeks-backed, Barwell Motorsport-run Lamborghini was enough to seal pole for Race 2, with Jonny Adam in the #17 TF Sport Aston Martin (below) falling 0.051 seconds short on his second flyer.
After that it was Alexander Sims in the other Barwell Lamborghini in third, ahead of Jon Barnes in the #11 TF Sport Aston and Joe Osborne in the AmD BMW. Rob Bell in the Ecurie Ecosse McLaren improved late in the session to slot into sixth, ahead of Mike Simpson in the #32 Tolman Ginetta, Jody Fannin in the PFL Aston and Seb Morris in the Parker Bentley.
Rounding out the top 10 was Ross Wylie in the Motorbase Aston, followed by Martin Short in the Rollcentre BMW, Luke Davenport in the #56 Tolman Ginetta and Matt Manderson in the Ultimate Speed Aston.
