Ginetta chairman Lawrence Tomlinson headlines the five G57 prototype entries from Ginetta in the VdeV series at Mugello. Tomlinson hopes to extend his lead at the head of the PFV Class. Unbeaten in qualifying and with a number of wins already under his belt, Tomlinson will arrive in Italy with a brand new driving partner behind the wheel of his Ginetta G57.
Joining the Ginetta boss is revered GT and Prototype racer Jon Lancaster, who won the 2015 European Le Mans Series and was instrumental in the development of the Ginetta LMP3. He steps in as Tomlinson’s long-time co-pilot Mike Simpson has commitments elsewhere.
“I’ve known Lawrence for some time and helped him in developing the LMP3 car last year, so the chance to race with him in the new G57 at a beautiful circuit such as Mugello, was one I clearly couldn’t turn down,” said Lancaster. “It’s a long six hours between us, but I am sure both ourselves and the G57 will come through it, hopefully with a win.”
Joining the pair on the grid for the six-hour endurance encounter is Remy Dogoffroy, who made his G57 debut at Aragon in July. He will pilot the #50 Ginetta G57 alongside new faces Stephan Rupp and Paul Smith in a second Simpson Motorsport prepared car.
Returning to the wheel of the CWS 4×4 Spares car is team owner Colin White and Charlie Robertson. The pair has been phenomenally fast so far this season and will certainly be expecting for more of the same.
Elsewhere, the newly established Race Performance team os hoping to continue the success they enjoyed during its Britcar Prototype Cup appearance with drivers Ollie Jackson and Alistar McKinnon.
Another car will be run by Ginetta’s Italian outfit, Nova Race. Founder Elisa Maioli will see her business partner Luca Magnoni joined behind the wheel by Jean Pierre Lequeux and Francesco “Checco” Malavasi, the latter being a new driver making the step up from the Ginetta G50.
