Dane Cameron’s 1:58.139 ten minutes into the second Free Practice session of the Lone Star Le Mans weekend put the #31 Action Express Corvette DP top of the timing screens. Cameron’s best was six tenths faster than the Wayne Taylor Racing Corvette, which saw Jordan Taylor go quickest in the car.
Third in the searing Texas heat was the VisitFlorida Corvette DP of Ryan Dalziel, who set a 1:57.785 at the very end of the session. The first non-DP in the order was the Michael Shank Racing Ligier after Oz Negri’s 1:59.093.
Down in GTLM, Ford managed to set the quicker time once again, though this time it was the #67 GT following a late flyer of 2:04.107 by Richard Westbrook, improving on Ryan Briscoe’s early time which was good enough to keep the car at the head of the field for the entire 60 minutes.
Risi Competizione’s Ferrari 488 ended up second fastest after Giancarlo Fisichella’s 2:04.510 that pushed the two Porsches down to third and fourth place, the #912 ahead of the #911.
In GTD, the #97 Turner Motorsports BMW headed the field, with Markus Palttala leading the charge with a 2:17.625 tour, less than a tenth faster than the Scuderia Corsa Ferrari of Alessandro Balzan and half a second quicker than the #27 Dream Racing Competition Lamborghini which ended the day’s running third.
The #88 Starworks Oreca topped PC with 2:01.367 courtesy of Richard Bradley.
