American sportscar driver Tony Adamowicz, known to generations of racing followers as Tony AtoZ lost his battle with brain cancer yesterday at the age of 75.
The New Yorker’s 30 plus year driving career covered single seaters (winning the 1969 F5000 championship), Can-Am, Trans-Am (winning the 1968 under 2 litre Championship in a Porsche 911) and sportscars.
He scored a class win, and 4th overall in 1969 at the Daytona 24 Hours (again in a Porsche 911, below).
His sportscar career saw spells with the NART Ferrari squad (including 2nd overall at Daytona and third at Le Mans in 1971 – below) and as a factory driver for Nissan in GTO and GTP machinery.
There was a second overall at Daytona in 1979 too, again a class win, this time in a Ferrari Daytona.
