Mercedes AMG has revealed a new addition to its customer sport range, the AMG GT4.
Full technical details will follow but the car is destined for FIA GT4 homologation and, like its AMG GT3 sister, the new car is based on the Mercedes AMG GT R road car.
The new AMG is the latest (but not the last) in a series of new GT4s heading for widespread customer competition with Porsche’s Cayman GT4, McLaren’s 570S GT4 and the new Ford Mustang GT4 already in the marketplace and details still awaited of the expected Audi R8 derivative for the junior GT class.
“The development of the Mercedes-AMG GT4 is another important step in the continuing expansion of our Mercedes-AMG motorsport programme,” Tobias Moers, Chairman of the Management Board of Mercedes-AMG GmbH said. “The excellent feedback of our Customer Sports teams concerning the AMG GT3 and the increasing interest for GT4 race cars strengthened us in our decision.
“We are delighted to address an even larger target group of amateur and professional drivers and teams in the future with it.”
