LMP1 News Notebook: Movements, Tributes & Clashes

Snippets from the LMP1 front!

Alex Hitzinger, Technical Head of Porsche’s all-conquering LMP1 programme until March this year has reportedly been recruited by Apple as the tech giant work hard on their own vehicle construction programme.

Porsche’s video tribute to their Audi stablemates has created a large amount of interest, and correctly so.

It continues a run of nicely weighted sporting nods to competition from Audi, Porsche and Toyota.

The emerging calendar for 2017 adds further debate to the potential changes in factory line-ups in LMP1, particularly if third cars for Toyota, and Porsche, come into play.

Duval Rast DTM

The clash between the Le Mans 24 Hours and Round 3 of the DTM at the Hungaroring effectively counts out both Loic Duval and Rene Rast, recently announced as Audi DTM drivers for 2017 from full seasons of the FIA WEC in general, and a Le Mans start in particular.

That’s not to say that we won’t see further changes emerging though, at least one 2016 factory LMP1 driver though is set to secure a full season 2017 LMP2 drive with another looking very likely to feature in LM GTE Pro.
