Garage 59 Confirms Two-Car GT Open Campaign

Second GT Open campaign for the 2016 Blancpain Endurance champ

Garage 59 will take part in its second full-season International GT Open campaign in 2017 with a pair of Pro-Am-entered 650S GT3s, the team has confirmed.

Driving its part of 650S GT3s will be French McLaren GT factory driver Côme Ledogar and Alexander West in the #88, while British duo Duncan Tappy and Michael Benham will return for the full season once again in the #59.

The British McLaren GT customer team made its GT Open series debut last year as a parallel programme alongside its Blancpain GT Series effort, finishing the season with a pair of race wins and five pole positions across its two cars.

For 2017 both cars will also be sporting fresh liveries, the #59 (above) predominately orange and the #88 mainly grey (below).

“It is great to be returning to the International GT Open Championship for a two car assault on the championship title,” said team manager Tim Mullen. “We showed great pace with the 650S GT3 and performed well as a team in 2016 so we are relishing the challenge ahead of us in 2017.

“We have strong driver lineups from the outset and they demonstrated last year they all worked well together during what was Alex and Mike’s impressive debut competitive GT racing seasons so it is all shaping up to be a good season.”

This brings McLaren’s 2017 GT Open car count to three, following Balfe Motorsport’s announcement that it will compete in the championship with its 650S GT3 with Shaun Balfe and McLaren factory star Rob Bell.

GT Open pre-season testing begins at Paul Ricard 3-4 March ahead of the championship’s opening at Estoril on April 29-30.
