Lago Cruises To Victory In Race 2 At Melbourne

Fraser Ross fights hard but finishes second

Roger Lago put on a masterclass in the second race of the Shannons Australian GT Championship round at Albert Park, the Lamborghini driver barely challenged after taking the lead into Turn 1.

Only Tekno Autosports’ Fraser Ross was on Lago’s pace as the two traded fastest lap times throughout the 25-minute sprint race, but Lago created a crucial gap in the early stages and was able to manage it throughout.

In the end, Lago won by four seconds from Ross with the McLaren holding out pole sitter, Max Twigg’s Mercedes.

Peter Major’s Lamborghini had been running in the podium positions be his chances at a podium was ruined by start infringement and he had to take a five second penalty. The time was added to his total race time and as a result, he crossed the line third but finished fifth behind Liam Talbot.

While the race was able to run green throughout, there were a number of incidents with Tony Bates taking to the gravel at turn three on the opening lap.

Geoff Emery, also had an off track moment and Tim Miles had spun his Audi and Adrian Deitz had to take to the grass in his Lamborghini to avoid an incident.

Finally, Tony Quinn spun his McLaren at Turn 11 later in the race but was able to continue.

The third race for the Australian GT Championship at the Albert Park will be held on Saturday at 12:05pm local time with the pro drivers stepping back into the cars for their second race.
