Mikkel Mac has taken Pole Position for this afternoon’s International GT Open race at the Hungaroring. The Dane took the #488 Spirit of Race Ferrari to a time of 1:42.907, bettering Lance D. Arnold (#20 SPS Mercedes) by just under two tenths of a second.
Mac bettered Arnold with 90 seconds of the session to go, after an impressive performance from the German filling in for Tom Onslow-Cole this weekend. After looking consistently fast, Arnold set a 1:43.096 to take second on the grid – the first Pro-AM entry in the qualifying order.
Giovanni Venturini (#1 Imperale Lamborghini) will start third, having set a 1:43.117 late in the session. Tiago Monteiro, the latest star to partner Lourenço Beirão da Veiga in the #51 Teo Martin BMW, put in a 1:43.319 to take fourth on the grid.
The championship-leading #54 Emil Frey Lexus of Albert Costa will line up fifth, alongside Vitantonio Liuzzi in the #555 FFF Racing Team Lamborghini – the Chinese squad, who’s weekend ended early due to fire at Paul Ricard, will start second in PRO-AM for the first race at the Hungaroring.
After showing surprising pace in yesterday’s practice sessions, Martin Konrad will start the #74 MS Racing Mercedes from eighth overall and AM class Pole.
Next up for the GT Open runners is Race 1, later today at 16:15 local time in Hungary.
