Mazda Team Joest has been out and running once again after its reccent shakedown at Hockenheim with a rebuilt but still 2017-spec RT24P DPi.
What appears to be the same car has been out on track once again, this time at Donington Park on a General Test Day with Jonathan Bomarito (pictured) on driving duty.
Progress with the revised Mazda meanwhile is well underway with the Multimatic facility at Thetford and the Lola windtunnel in Huntingdon both involved in the programme to revamp the car. It’s a process likely to have been helped in no small part by the decision to allow Multimatic to rework the chassis and both ‘global’ LMP2 aero kits under the ‘Joker’ rules.
The absence from Fuji for Multimatic’s Larry Holt is understood to be linked to rapid progress for the Mazda programme at present.
The use of Donington for the latest running is understood not to be a coincidence, the testing of the current car providing baseline data that can be measured accurately against the first testing with the new spec car, at least some of which looks set to be at the UK circuit.
