ELMS and FIA WEC GTE outfit Proton Competition has been out testing in Aragon this week, as part of a week-long run in a Dunlop Tyre Test, trying out its new 911 RSRs and drivers.
The team has been running two Porsche 911 RSRs, the first with Christian Ried, newly confirmed driver Matteo Cairoli and father and son Gianluca and Giorgio Roda behind the wheel. The family Roda and Cairoli will form one of the team’s ELMS driver crews, the other will feature Dennis Olsen as its lead drier.
The season will mark 2010 Porsche Cup winner Gianluca Roda’s return to racing Porsches, after competing in Ferraris and Corvettes in recent seasons.
The team’s second car is also present, of five that the team will eventually field and/ or support in WEC and ELMS competition.
This car will run with Fabio Babini at the wheel. Babini is the full season nominated ELMS driver and Le Mans driver for Italian team Ebimotors, which has moved from racing with Lamborghini in the GT3, to Porsche.
Its Porsche will be run by Proton this year, Babini confirming to DSC his part in the programme, and the full switch by the team to racing a Porsche in the Le Mans Cup this year after it won the title in 2017 with a Huracan.
They’ll continue testing the second Proton Porsche in advance of the delivery of their own car, which DSC can confirm is the seventh customer 911 RSR chassis with the remainder split between Proton Competition, and FIA WEC bound Gulf Racing UK and Project 1 Motorsport.
