SMP Ferrari On Pole For Endurance Cup Opener At Monza

The #72 SMP Racing Ferrari F488 GT3, driven by Mikhail Aleshin, Miguel Molina and Davide Rigon will start from pole position for the 3 Hours of Monza, the opening round of the 2018 Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup. Davide Rigon set the quickest time for the #72 entry with a 1:48.112 set on his second lap of the third session to give the team an average of 1:48.311 for the three sessions.

Lining up alongside the #72 car on the front row of the grid, and leading the Silver Cup class, will be the #54 Emil Frey Jaguar Racing G3 Jaguar, driven by Alex Fontana, Adrian Zaugg and Mikael Grenier in which Grenier lapped quickest with a 1:48.039 in the third session, to give an average of 1:48.319.

Completing the top three on the grid was the #1 Team WRT Audi R8 LMS, piloted by Dries Vanthoor, Christopher Mies and Alex Riberas.

Starting from the front of the Pro-AM category will be the #11 Kessel Racing Ferrari F488 GT3 driven by Michael Broniszewski and Alessandro Pier Guidi, which averaged 1:49.058 round the 5.7 km circuit.

The AM Cup category time-sheets were topped by the #89 Akka ASP Team Mercedes-AMG GT3 piloted by Philipe Giauque, Eric Debard and Fabien Barthez which averaged 1:50.093.

The second 15-minute qualifying session was interrupted by a red flag with 5:04 remaining after Salih Yoluc, behind the wheel of the #49 Ram Racing Mercedes, left the track at T9 and speared the barriers hard on the left-hand side of the circuit, causing significant damage to the front of the car.

The lights go out for the 3 Hours of Monza at 15:00 local time on Sunday April 22.
