Supercars driver Chaz Mostert is due to make his US racing debut later this year at Petit Le Mans, with BMW Team RLL in IMSA’s GTLM class.
Mostert will get a taste of racing a GTE-spec car for the first time too when he takes to the track at Road Atlanta. This adds to his already packed schedule in October, the Australian set to drive in the USA in the weekend between the biggest Supercars race of the year, the Bathurst 1000 and Gold Coast 600.
“It’ll be pretty cool. I’ll obviously be thrown massively in the deep end there, so I’m not really sure what to expect,” Mostert told Supercars.com.
“But BMW as a group and their drivers, they’re so helpful getting you up to speed.
“No doubt if I get enough laps in the car and use their guidance, hopefully we can have a good, solid weekend.”
Despite the tight schedule, Mostert explained that his Supercars team Tickford Racing were very accomodating.
“I think it’s an opportunity that you just can’t let go,” he said of fitting the BMW commitment between the two Supercars races.
“The team [Tickford Racing] has worked hard to work out my travel schedule to make sure I’m back in Australia and ready for the [Gold Coast] race.
“I did Paul Ricard, and that was pretty close to the last event I did as well. You feel a little bit tired, but it’s still good to do laps any time you get your bum in a car.
“It’s different situations, different racing, and it really opens your mind up on a lot of things. You never stop learning and doing this overseas stuff is really exciting.”
Currently, there’s no confirmation on which M8 GTE he will drive at Petit, which is the only remaining 2018 event he has planned with BMW Motorsport.
