Chinese team Anstone Racing has announced that it will be joining the Blancpain GT Series Asia championship for its final two rounds at Shanghai and Ningbo.
The new outfit will compete with two new Mercedes AMG GT3s, with its first first race weekend being this weekend at Shanghai. The addition of the team’s pair of Mercedes means that five AMG GT3s will be racing at the upcoming meeting, the others being run by GruppeM and Indigo Racing.
Driving the team’s Mercedes will be Naoki Yokomizo and Max Wiser, both pro drivers with experience racing in the championship. Yokomizo won at Fuji in 2017 and will make his third appearence of the season for as many different teams at Shanghai. Earlier in the year he competed with Kizashi Racing’s Lamborghini and CarGuy Racing’s Ferrari. Wiser, meanwhile, competed with Swiss-flagged team Spirit of Race last season.
Yokomizo is again joined by former Ferrari Challenge Asia Pacific Am champion Wei Xu who also contested Fuji’s round with CarGuy Racing having previously raced in China GT. Fellow countryman David Chen will share the team’s second Mercedes-AMG with Wiser.
Shanghai will be Anstone’s first-ever motorsport event, though its partners, Tianshi Racing Team, are regulars in China GT and the Asian Le Mans Series.
