Ford has announced that it will be taking a Ford GT to next month’s Bathurst 1000, for demo laps which will see the car run for the first time at Mount Panorama and on Australian soil.
Sydney-born racer Briscoe, who competes with the brand in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, and has three Bathurst 1000 starts to his name, will drive the car at the world-famous Australian event in multiple dedicated sessions.
“We’re excited to have the opportunity to put this amazing race car on such an iconic circuit,” said Ford Australian and New Zealand President and CEO, Kay Hart.
“Innovation through design and engineering drives Ford Performance, and where better than Bathurst to introduce the Ford Performance GT to Australians.”
Briscoe added: “The Ford GT is an ultra-high-performance car, so I’m really excited and honoured to turn the Ford GT’s first laps at Bathurst.
“For me, Bathurst is one of the best, if not the best racing circuit in the world. Nothing quite compares to Bathurst. Bathurst as a circuit demands the highest respect at all times.”
In addition to a GT making an appearance, this year’s Bathurst 1000 is also set to be significant for Ford, as it’s the last run in the event for the Ford Falcon, before the Mustang takes over next season as the brand’s Supercars contender.
The 2018 running of the Bathurst 1000 is set to take place from October 4-7.
