News reached DSC just this morning that Manuel Monteiro (pictured centre above), a regular in FIA GT in the mid-late 1990s with his Estoril Racing Team and two-time starter at Le Mans, was killed earlier this week in a tree felling accident.
Manuel left Portugal to France at 18 years old to flee from the Colonial War and the dictatorship, and settled in France, creating a strong business and then later fulfilling his dream to race at Le Mans with his French-born son Michel.
Manuel raced in contemporary GT racing in France, Spain and in the GT Open as well as in FIA GT before later switching to historic racing where he was still a very active participant (below pictured at the 2018 Le Mans Classic).
