39 Cars On Rolex 24 Entry

Small field for the IMSA opener

Just 39 cars feature on the full Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona entry list which has been released ahead of next week’s race.

The 39 cars are split across the four classes with three of the categories featuring a smaller number of entrants to 2019’s edition, which had 47 cars. Daytona Prototype international (DPi) has eight, LMP2 grows to six entries, while DPi with eight GT Le Mans with seven and GT Daytona with 18 have reduced in size. Almost every entry will compete in the full 2020 WeatherTech Championship season, however.

One car has dropped off the list since the roar, the second PR1/Mathiasen ORECA, bringing the LMP2 class field down to six cars.

There is still a handful of TBDs in the driver column of the entry. In LMP2 Rick Ware Racing’s Multimatic chassis features just two drivers, Cody Ware and Johnathan Hoggard. Both James Davison and Mark Kvamme who drove the car at the Roar test are off the list.

In GTD meanwhile, the #47 PPM Lamborghini has two TBDs, with just Brandon Gdovic and Eric Lux confirmed.

There’s also a TBD in the #98 Aston Martin Racing Vantage, in the seat originally filled by Paul Dalla Lana. The Canadian is unable to take part in the Rolex 24 after injuring himself skiing. It’s not yet clear whether or not Aston Martin Racing will be able to find a replacement gentlemen driver in time to make the race.

The field includes race cars from 12 different manufacturers and includes 42 drivers with at least one previous Rolex 24 victory.

It also includes a two-time and reigning NASCAR Cup Series champion, the 2019 Indianapolis 500 winner among six Indy 500 winners and five IndyCar champions in the field, 26 24 Hours of Le Mans winners and 30 IMSA premier series champions.

The race also will include drivers from 22 different countries and five continents.

The entry list for the Michelin Pilot Challenge season opener at Daytona, held in support of the Rolex 24, is also out, featuring 49 cars across the two classes (GS and TCR).

On-track activity for the 58th Rolex 24 At Daytona begins on Thursday, January 23rd with practice and qualifying. The race begins at 13:30 on Saturday, January 25th.
