The ACO has revealed the full entry list for the 2020 running of the Le Mans 24 Hours in June, featuring 62 cars, and 10 reserves.
The smallest of the four classes is LMP1 with just six cars. Rebellion Racing, Team LNT and Toyota are present, with ByKolles on the reserve list with its CLM P1/01 that hasn’t competed in the current FIA WEC season.
Elsewhere the other classes feature double-digit entries.
The LMP2 field for this year’s race will be 24-cars strong with an additional innovation (Garage 56) entry from SRT41. All four chassis are present too, Rick Ware Racing having entered a Riley Mk.30. The majority though are ORECAs, as expected, with 19 07 Gibsons listed (including Aurus, Alpine and the ‘Garage 56’ SRT 41). The remaining cars are Ligiers and Dallaras.
The GTE Pro class features 11 cars, representing four marques. The GTE Am class will be contested by a huge 20-car field including the appearance of Luzich Racing, not expected to take up their place, the team reportedly having ceased operations, but with Asian Le Mans Series racer for Spirit of Race Francesco Piovanetti from Puerto Rico rewarded for his labours.
More details to come on the return of the Garage 56 entry for Association SRT 41, this an adapted ORECA 07 Gibson for a trio of physically handicapped drivers, part of an academy established by Frederic Sausset.
As has been the case in recent years, the grid is oversubscribed with 75 applications filled for the 62 places, meaning multiple teams have missed out. The reserve list for the race features 10 cars this year, with Spirit of Race, ByKolles and IDEC Sport’s second ORECA making up the top three.
RLR MSport are notable by their absence from the entry or reserve list
Notably, in amongst the list, there are three all-female crews from IMSA team GEAR Racing and ELMS teams Iron Lynx and Richard Mille Racing.
There are 10 first time entrants: Nielsen Racing, Richard Mille Racing, Thunderhead Carlin Racing, Performance Tech and Rick Ware racing in LMP2, Luzich racing, Red River Sport, HubAuto Corsa, Iron Lynx and GEAR Racing in GTE AM
One detail which will need to see a change is that Porsche factory driver Matt Campbell seems to be listed at present in two cars, the #93 GTE Pro 911 RSR-19 and his regular WEC ride the #77 Dempsey Proton Racing 91 RSR in GTE Am. He’s expected to race in the Pro car!
