Here’s the best news of the day, indeed for a large number of days – by far as United Autosports’ Christian England steps back aboard a race car for the first time since suffering serious leg and foot injuries at the final round of the 2019 European Le Mans Series at Portimao.
Christian’s injuries happened when his #3 Ligier JSP3 was involved in the multi-car accident at the start of the race, a head-on impact with a spun LMP2 car leaving the front of the car heavily damaged and Christian with very significant injuries.
As you’ll see in the short film below his recovery ha been remarkable, huge credit is due to the circuit medical team and to his surgeon, the test in one of United’s new Ligier JS P320s part of the pre-season aero work with Christian now eager to get back in a car as soon as possible:
“He’s keen to get back racing as soon as possible and we’ll be looking for opportunities to get him involved with testing to continue to help his recovery,” said United Team Principal Richard Dean.
“The runs yesterday were a key part of our prep but having seen his recovery progress, from arriving just weeks ago at the factory in a wheelchair to a point where he was able to walk in unaided to get a seat fitting and now to get aboard and do the test, I’ll admit it was pretty emotional.”
