The three-way clash between the FIA WEC, IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship and GT World Challenge Europe season finales next weekend have seen some changes made to the entry list for all three events.
The latest version of the FIA WEC’s Bahrain entry sees a number in GTE-AM in particular.
Jörg Bergmeister, last year’s FIA World Endurance Championship LMGTE Am class champion returns to replace Matteo Cairoli in the #56 Team Project 1 Porsche 911 RSR. Matteo is set to race at Paul Ricard in pursuit of the GT World Challenge title.
Elsewhere, the line-ups for the Dempsey-Proton Racing #77 and #88 Porsche 911 RSR entries have also seen some changes. Replacing Matt Campbell in the #77 entry alongside Christian Ried and Riccardo Pera is Norway’s Dennis Olsen.
Confirmed to drive the #88 car is Abu Dhabi’s Khaled Al Qubaisi.
The Emirati is vastly experienced having won the Dubai 24 Hours on two occasions, also taking two wins in the WEC (including in Bahrain – pictured above) en route to the runner-up spot in the GTE AM Championship in 2016 as well as finishing second in class at Le Mans in 2014 and again in 2016. Al Qubaisi will be joined by Germany’s Marco Holzer, a former Porsche factory driver. The team is yet to confirm its third driver.
LMGTE Am squad Gulf Racing also sees a driver change. Regular driver Andrew Watson will be replaced by Belgium’s Alessio Picariello, the newly-crowned 2020 ELMS GTE Champion after his win in Portugal at the weekend.
As previously announced Richard Westbrook will replace Augusto Farfus in the #98 Aston Martin.
The Cool Racing Oreca has joined the High Class Racing effort as withdrawal from LMP2.
