Jenson Team Rocket RJN have today confirmed their intentions to expand their McLaren Customer Racing plans for 2021 with an entry into the new look DTM Series with a McLaren 720S GT3.
The team is formed by 2009 F1 World Champion, Jenson Button and life-long friend, Le Mans 24 Hour LMP2 Winner Chris Buncombe alongside Team Principal, Bob Neville.
The driver for the McLaren is yet to be confirmed though it is understood that whilst Jenson Button himself may make a guest appearance (the team has access to more than one Mclaren), he is unlikely to be named as a full-season driver due to existing commitments, including TV duties for Sky F1.
The single Mclaren from the team joins a pair of similar cars from 2 Seas Motorsport, a pair of Audi R8 LMS GT3 from Abt and a solo Mercedes AMG GT3 from GruppeM racing on the currently announced provisional entry
Jenson Button: “I’ve always loved DTM and it’s exciting to see the Series evolve into this new chapter with GT3. I’ve known Gerhard (Berger) for a long time and I’m sure he will ensure they put on a great show! We are all working behind the scenes to make this DTM plan come together and I’m pleased to be able to expand our plans with McLaren.”
