The European Le Mans Series saw 90 minutes for Free Practice.
The 2020 championship-winning #22 United Autosports Oreca 07-Gibson got the new season off to a flying start with Phil Hanson setting the fastest lap of the first 90-minute Free Practice session at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain.
The British driver posted a 1:33.629 lap, 0.147s ahead of the #37 Cool Racing Oreca driven by Nico Lapierre, which was the fastest of the seven Pro-Am cars on the LMP2 grid.
The #28 IDEC Sport Oreca was third fastest with a lap of 1:34.108 set by Paul Loup Chatin, with the #41 Team WRT Oreca, driven by Louis Deletraz, fourth just 0.040s slower than Chatin.
The LMP3 class was headed by the #8 Graff Ligier after David Droux posted a 1:39.763, 0.087s ahead of the #13 Inter Europol Competition Ligier of Ugo de Wilde and 0.220s ahead of 2020 LMP3 champion Wayne Boyd in the #2 United Autosports Ligier.
The #95 TF Sport Aston Martin Vantage set the pace in the first 90-minute session of the 4 Hours of Barcelona weekend, with Ross Gunn setting a 1:43.190, 0.265s ahead of the #80 Iron Lynx Ferrari F488 GTE EVO of Spain’s Miguel Molina, with the 2020 championship-winning car, the #77 Proton Competition Porsche 911 RSR-19, third fastest with a 1m43.528 lap set by Jaxon Evans.
Late afternoon saw the Bronze driver test session with Salih Yoluc topping the LMP2 times in the #34 Racing Team Turkey Oreca, a 1:36.376 late in the session pipping the earlier session-topping 1:36.700 of John Falb in the #25 G-Drive Aurus 01.
The LMP3 Times were headed by Mattia Pasini in the #14 Inter-Europol Ligier with a 1:41.195 whilst in GTE Rodrigo Sales popped in a 1:45.417 to top the order in the #66 JMW Motorsport Ferrari.
Free Practice 2 will take place at 09h00 tomorrow morning with qualifying following in the afternoon.
