Sean Patrick Breslin: 1947-2021

Sean Patrick Breslin, pictured top left, long-time serious gentleman racer, passed away last month at his home in South Africa at 74 years old.

Sean Patrick was often to be found racing alongside his son, Sean Paul Breslin, now the Team Manager at Haupt Racing Team, the pair finding a happy racing home in the welcoming embrace of the Nurburgring racing community in Sean Patrick’s latter racing years.

After early exploits in the Renault 5 and 5 turbo championship in the 1980s and 1990s, followed by years in Formula Ford and Formula Renault with Manor Motorsport, Sean Patrick ‘found’ the Nürburgring-Nordschleife scene, and started racing there in his 60s.

His first home there was with Manthey Racing, then with the newly founded Black Falcon Team. Sean Patrick drove in many different classes and achieved sixth place in the VLN 9 in 2010 with the AMG-Mercedes SLS GT3 and eleventh place in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring a year later.

The links with Black Falcon grew stronger and Sean Patrick raced with the team on their adventures in Bathurst, Abu Dhabi and Dubai as well as with a full season in the FIA GT3 Championship with the team’s brief dalliance with the Audi R8 LMS.

Beyond that there were other one-offs, including a run at the Rolex 24 Hours in 2010 in a GT class Corvette, more bucket list boxes ticked for the über-enthusiast.

Sean leaves behind a wife, four children and ten grandchildren and DSC send all of them our condolences.
