Resurfacing of a section of the Circuit de la Sarthe is underway this week with a section of the Mulsanne Straight, from the Antares roundabout to the first chicane, last resurfaced in 2011 receiving a full surface replacement to the road/ track and shoulders.
The road on that section is currently closed until 29 October to help to ensure optimum conditions and a perfect end result suitable not only for public road use, but also for racing.
The resurfacing was approved after an inspection showed the current surface was showing signs of fatigue and the asphalt covering the shoulders was damaged.
The current project involves relaying 1,700 tonnes of fresh asphalt. Once applied, the four timing loops in this section of the circuit will be fully restored a cost of €245,000.
