DSC understands that Cetilar Racing are likely to step away from the FIA World Endurance Championship for a single season in 2022 to contest the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship with a GTD class Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo. AF Corse are likely to provide the core support package for the effort.
The team, led by Italian racer and businessman Roberto Lacorte have competed in the European Le Mans Series and FIA WEC since 2017 always in Italian machinery and with an all-Italian driver squad.
The team contested the 2021 Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona, the last race for their Dallara P217 LMP2 car before a switch to the GTE Am class with a Ferrari for the 2021 WEC season which brought the team’s first WEC class win, in the 8 Hours of Portimao.
The switch to a US programme comes as the Cetilar company pursues expansion into the US market.
Sources suggest that a return to the WEC is planned in the future.
And another WEC GTE AM contender will make at least one appearance in IMSA in 2022 if current plans come together – Paul Dalla Lana confirmed to DSC that he intends to contest the GTD class at the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona once again with Aston Martin.
