There was little between two of the favourites in practice for the Sands China Macau GT Cup, Darryl O’Young just pipping Alex Imperatori.
It was reigning GT Cup winner Ye Hong Li (TORO Racing Porsche) that made a fast start to the 25-minute session, his 2:26.399s good enough for top spot before an early red flag.
But once the session went green again the times started to tumble, Craft-Bamboo Mercedes driver O’Young pulling clear of the field with a 2:24.118s.
Imperatori was quick to respond, shifting his Meidong Racing Porsche into second with a 2:25.016s. Both drivers improved next time around as well, O’Young to a 2:22.113s and Imperator to a 2:23.045s. Swiss-born Imperatori then had one more crack at chasing down O’Young’s benchmark, but fell 0.193s short.
Ye ended up third, his best time just under a second off the ultimate pace, followed by Chen Wei An (Harmony Racing Audi), Luo Kai Luo (TORO Racing Mercedes) and Macao driver Lo Kai Fung (ZUVER Audi).
Min Heng (TORO Racing Mercedes) was followed by the experienced Marchy Lee Ying Kin (Uno Racing Team Aston Martin) as teammate David Pun Kwan Lum and Audi driver Zhang Ya Qi rounded out the Top 10.
There were some early casualties in the GT field, Wu Rui Hua hitting the wall at Police in his YC Racing Audi.
Wong Kwai Wah looked to badly damage his Son Veng Racing Team BMW when he hit the wall at Mandarin right at the end of the session.
