March 1 marked the 10th anniversary celebrated of Mission Motorsport, a pioneering charity launched at Thruxton Motor Circuit in order to help those affected by military operations by engagement through motorsport.
The premise of Mission Motorsport from the start was to engage their beneficiaries in a sport where disabled competitors compete against the able bodied on a level playing field.
The ‘Mission’ though grew quickly, encompassing a wide range of support skills and investigating training and employment opportunities for those who were introduced to the organisation.
Their “Race Retrain Recover” motto has served their trainees well with over 2000 service veterans having found work through the charity’s programmes.
That has included work placements and full-time employment for trainees in a wide range of automotive and motorsport companies large and small, together with the addition of in-house enterprises including the Charity’s ‘Livery Studio’ where design and execution of liveries and full vehicle wraps have been undertaken including those of a succession of ‘Poppy Cars’ used by Mission Motorsport to promote their work, and that of sister forces charities.
For many their most visible achievement has been the establishment of the extraordinary ‘Race of Remembrance’, now an annual fixture at Anglesey Circuit where club racers from around the UK gather to take part in a unique endurance race, graced by many of the charity’s beneficiaries both on track and in pit crew and support roles, the race pausing under a Red Flag for a unique Remembrance Service on pit lane on Remembrance Sunday.
Please take a look at the film below with the Charity’s founder and CEO Jim Cameron and support them if you can.
