David Robertson has passed away at 66 years old. David, a commercial pilot by trade scored two amazing results in his life:
The first was when he met his future wife Andrea, then an air traffic controller, and the second, when the pair became the first grandparents to compete at Le Mans as a couple, and the first husband and wife team to finish the 24 Hours.
Indeed they would finish with a podium, 3rd in GTE AM in 2011 aboard their Doran-Ford GT together with David Murry.
The couple competed together from 2007 (initially in a Panoz Esperante GTLM) through to the end of 2011, principally in the American Le Mans Series though there were appearances too at the Okayama rounds of the Asian Le Mans Series and that famous Le Mans appearance.
After the ALMS programme was over the couple still raced, albeit in more gentle surroundings in historic racing with the Ford. David will be remembered as a gentle giant, a gentleman driver of the truest sort and, most importantly as a huge supporter of his wife’s racing ambitions (she was, undoubtedly, the faster of the pair). This was a love story at 200 mph and all the more special for it!
