Race 1 of the GT4 America series at NOLA Motorsports Park has been red flagged due to heavy rain at the circuit, before a single green flag lap has been run.
The race got off to something of a dreadful start when, in the middle of the pack, the #53 AutoTechnic Racing BMW M4 GT4 (Rob Walker), the Pro-Am championship-leading #15 BSport Racing Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 (Bryan Putt), and the #82 BimmerWorld Racing M4 GT4 (James Walker Jnr) stacked up into one another and crashed as the field was taking the green flag. Also, the #66 The Racers Group Porsche (Jason Alexandridis) was also caught up but suffered no major damage. All drivers were okay.
Immediately, the Full Course Yellow was called, and transformed into a Safety Car. While the field circulated under the Safety Car, heavy rain and – most alarmingly – thunder and lightning began to roll in over the circuit. This resulted in a red flag with just over 40 minutes left on the race clock.
The race was suspended with the #18 RS1 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport RS (Eric Filgueiras/Stevan McAleer) leading the #120 Premier Racing Porsche (Adam Adelson/Elliott Skeer) and the #52 AutoTechnic M4 GT4 (Tom Capizzi/John Capestro-Dubets).
