GT Cup Open

The new European season started from where it ended, with Jan Lauryssen and Q1 Trackracing on the top of the podium. Race 1 at the Paul Ricard saw the Belgian package imposing itself, thanks to speed and consistency, ahead of the other two Porsches, the GDL car of Bashar Mardini and Christopher Zörchling, and the other Q1 car of Lucas Valkre-Dirk Schouten.  Zörchling had led in the first stint, after starting from the pole.

Q1 Trackracing also took a 1-3 in the Am class, with John De Wilde and Laurent Vandervelde-Nicolas Vandierendonck, who sandwiched the car of Glauco Solieri (Ghinzani Arco Motorsport).

GDL Racing took its maiden win in the GT Cup Open Europe at Paul Ricard, on a warm Sunday afternoon. Bahar Mardini and Christopher Zöchling had a perfect race, with Mardini holding third position in the first stint and Zörchling finishing the job in the second.

The Canadian and the Austrian are the leaders in the standings after this season-opening round, five points ahead of Lucas Valkre and Dirk Schouten. The Franco-Dutch pair of Q1 Trackracing finished on the podium, like yesterday, but one step higher. The Dutchman had conquered the pole position earlier in the morning.

Third was the SP Racing pair composed of Eugenio Pisani and Stefano Zanini, after a very consistent race.

In the Am class, John De Wilde repeated yesterday’s success for Q1 Trackracing, in what was a very successful return to the GT Cup for the Belgian. He preceded Glauco Solieri (Ghinzani Arco Motorsport), again second, and the GDL pair of the Bosio father-and-son, Roberto and Samuele.
