Luca Ludwig beat off the challenge from Augusto Farfus in his ROWE Racing BMW to take pole position for tomorrow’s Nürburgring 24 Hours in the #26 Octane 126 Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo, this a replacement car for the Ferrari written off in the ADAC Qualifying race earlier this month and 11 years after the Hankook Team Farnbacher 458 took pole!
Ludwig’s 8:09.469, set on the first of two flying laps in the pole shootout was more than good enough to seal the deal, more than a second faster than the mark set by the Brazilian BMW star in the #98 BMW M4 GT3 (8:10.640).
Indeed the BMW was almost overhauled with a second flying lap effort from Jordan Pepper in the Konrad Lamborghini, the South African though would cross the line just over a tenth shy of Farfus, but would elevate the Huracan’s start position to third after sitting fourth fastest on his first flying lap attempt.
Completing the second row was Christopher Haase in the #22 Audi Sport Team Car Collection R8 LMS GT2 Evo2.
Row three will see the #16 Phoenix Racing Audi line up alongside the BMW Junior Team M4 GT3 after efforts from Kuba Giermaziak and Dan Harper.
Row four sees the #101 Walkenhorst BMW and the #12 HRT Mercedes AMG, Christian Krognes and Luca Stolz on shootout duties.
Row five saw the best of the Porsches, the #25 Huber Motorsport car in the hands of Nico Menzel just quicker than the second, #6 HRT AMG of Nico Bastian.
The earlier qualifying shootout to allow four cars to get the final positions for the Pole session saw the #117 True Racing KTM stop on course with a lost wheel and the Glickenhaus fail to set a time after a technical problem on the Grand Prix circuit.
The defending champions of Manthey Racing will start from the back of the lead group after incurring a penalty from an earlier session in a caution zone.
