Glickenhaus Racing will start the 2022 Nurburgring 24 Hours after overnight work to replace the engine in the wake of a failure of the SCG 004C’s water pump after a “software glitch” saw the electric water pump not starting when the car went out for the first top qualifying session.
The issue was spotted with the team opting to pit the car after a lap of the Grand Prix circuit and sit out the session.
A happier moment for Jim Glickenhaus came with the presentation of the Gickenhaus Trophy on the grid to Luca Ludwig the pre-race polesitter.
BoP Changes Pre-race For BMW, Ferrari, KTM and Aston Martin
Post Qualifying a series of Balance of Performance changes have been made, principally affecting the pole setting Ferrari and the BMW M4 GT3 entries.
The 488 and the M4 both get a 10-kilo weight increase with the BMW also getting a turbo boost reduction.
TF Sport’s Aston Martin Vantage meanwhile gets its turbo boost increased marginally and the GTX class KTMs get a 15 kilo weight break.
KCMG Hit Warm-Up Trouble
The race morning warm-up saw trouble for the #18 KCMG Porsche with Earl Bamber seemingly off the road with damage at the front-left corner including, but not limited to, a puncture.
