GT3 Transition Reconfirmed, Next Gen LMP2 Plans Remain Firm & Will Include Adjustment of Performance

GT

The ACO have reconfirmed their intention to introduce a Pro-AM class only as the next generation of GT racing emerges.

GTE Pro will, as planned, cease after the 2022 season in the FIA WEC with GTE AM continuing in 2023 before being replaced by a GT3-based class, with a final name to be confirmed, for 2024.

There will be an upgrade kit for the GT3 cars, dubbed ‘GT3 Premium’ though it was not made clear whether that would be for Le Mans only as had been suggested by senior sources previously.

The door for a GTE Pro class had been left ajar should four or more entries for a full season have been sourced but, as expected, without support from either Ferrari or Porsche, both of whom have Hypercar class programmes, that option has now been discounted.

LMP2

The next generation of LMP2 chassis will be introduced from the 2025 season belying some expectations that the current generation of cars might continue for longer in light of current supply chain difficulties.

The cars, as planned, will be on the ‘spine of the LMDH cars supplied by Ligier, ORECA, Dallara and Multimatic.

There will be an “adjustment of performance” provision in place, a key addition after the eventual dominance of ORECA in the current formula – but a process that is not as intensively interventionary as the current BoP process elsewhere

There is a possibility for the introduction of a hybrid package within the 5 years of the homologation

No news on engine supplier.
