Back to Monza for a second consecutive racing weekend and one thing hasn’t changed since the ELMS weekend – it’s hot!
Temperatures in the mid-30s look nailed on for the next few days and, as always, that makes things uncomfortable for drivers and pitchers alike with plenty of questions around the effects on car systems, tyres and human fatigue.
Hypercar BoP Adjustments
The Toyota, Glickenhaus and Alpine have all received Balance of Performance adjustments on both weight and power for Monza. The new Peugeot 9X8 is also given its starting BoP level.
There’s quite a range of minimum weights and maximum power levels across the now six-car Hypercar field. there’s differentiation too on the most recent addition to the BoP matrix, hybrid activation speed.
The Peugeots weigh in at 1079 kg for their debut, compared to Toyota’s 1070 kg, the Glickenhaus at 1030 kg and the Alpine at 952kg
On Hybrid activation, the Toyota remains at 190 km/h whilst the Peugeot will be able to deploy hybrid power through their four-wheel drive system at 150km/h
Maximum power output is highest for the Glickenhaus at 533kw, up from 520kw at Le Mans, the Peugeots are next highest with 515 kw with the Toyotas on 513kw (up 7kw from Le Mans) and the Alpine at 428kw (up 11kw from Le Mans, regaining just a little over the power lost to a 10kw adjustment after Hyperpole at Le Mans).
There have been adjustments too in stint energy allowances and a 1 kg minimum weight reduction for the Toyotas.

Peugeot
The two brand new Peugeot 9X8s are attracting no little attention in pit lane, these two cars are brand new and delivered after shake down tests.
Glickenhaus
Also attracting admiring looks, and the photographer’s lenses is the newly reliveried #708 SCG 007 Hypercar, the ‘sky blue’ base colour taken from the SCG badge.
