A sweltering Friday saw just one track session ahead of Sunday’s Six Hours of Monza.
The big news of the weekend is, of course, the race debut of the Peugeot Sport 9X8 pair and one of the two cars put in a competitive showing in the 90-minute Free Practice One, third fastest behind the session-topping #708 Glickenhaus in the hands of Romain Dumas (1:37.984) and the #36 Alpine (Andre Negrao – 1:38.602).
Paul di Resta was the man setting quick times in the #93 Peugeot and ended the session just two-tenths off the Alpine with the two Toyotas 3 and four-tenths back respectively.
The #94 Peugeot had a less successful session, initially refusing to start as the session went green and then not up to speed and spending time in the garage, the car would end the session behind the LMP2 runners in the timing order.
In LMP2 Alessio Rovera topped the times in the #83 AF Corse Oreca, a 1:39.973 a quarter second up on Norman Nato’s time in the #41 Realteam by WRT car, Esteban Gutierrez was next up in the #34 for Inter Europol Competition.
Kevin Estre led GTE Pro with a 1:47.273 in the #92 Porsche, three tenths up on the #52 AF Corse Ferrari in the hands of Antonio Fuoco with Nick Tandy making it three marques in the top three for Corvette.
The GTE Am field meanwhile saw an all-Porsche top three: Ben Barnicoat topping the times in the #56 Team Project 1/ inception Racing machine ahead of Ben Barker in the #86 GR Racing car and Matteo Cairoli rounding out the top three in the #46 Team Project 1 911 RSR-19.
